Q: How do you suggest numbers for the cars?
A: We suggest numbering them numerically from 1-9999. It does not matter what rank order they are numbered in as the computer will randomly select racers. Numbers must be placed on the rear of the car on the top of the car so the number can be read from the rear of the car while looking down at the car. This is how we will use the numbers for the racing.
Q: How long will it take to run our Pack?
A: Groups under 40 racers may take a bit over 1 minute per heat. There will be 1 heat per car (unless the computer can't calculate a good start a BYE car may be added). For groups of 40 or larger, we can usually run less than a minute per heat. Stoppage for cars that break or jump lanes will delay the overall time. We aim for about 1 hour of racing time and will adjust the pace of the "Show".
Q: What is a fast time for cars on the track?
A: Cars that are in the 220MPH are considered fast cars. The fastest Youth car raced as of 2024 was 239.9 MPH (set in 2017).
Q: Are the cars going 200MPH?
A: No this is a scale speed of 1:27 so they are traveling around 3-5 MPH then the computer adjusts the speed by the scale.
Q: How long does it take for you to set up and tear down?
A: Setup usually is about 1 hour, and tear down is about 30 minutes. We as the host organization do not interfere with our process and allow us to set up and tear down. If we need assistance we will ask.
Q: How many races do you do in 1 year?
A: We race anywhere from 10-30 racers a year. Our current team has been running races together for over 10 years.
Q: What are No-Nos for PDXDerbyDudes?
A: Popcorn as a snack is not recommended as it is easy to toss onto the track. The butter then causes problems in tracking performance and we will need to stop the race to clean the track
A: Wet glue or Gell weights. We will disqualify a car that has wet glue or Gel weights as it endangers the track and/or our performance.
A: CROSSING THE TRACK BY ANYONE. This track is 20 years old and we want to keep using it. If you or anyone in the group needs to get to the other side of the track we ask that you walk around or ask us before crossing the track. You will notice even PDXDerbyDudes try our best to not cross the track as well. If at any point we feel this rule is not being respected we will stop the race and pack up.
Q: Can nonorganization racers race?
A: Yes we call these open class they are welcome to participate in the Race. Their cars will be randomly mixed with the rest of the organization. We suggest putting a character (!,*,$,@,%, etc,) in front of the name so when the MC announces the heat finishers they can also announce the first finishing youth for that heat.
